The global value of protective transit packaging products and systems totalled $112.3 billion in 2016 and is forecast to grow to $139.4 billion in 2022 according to a new report “The Future of Protective and Transit Packaging to 2022,” published by Smithers Pira in late 2017.
There are three major conditions driving this growth:
- The continued growth of eCommerce sales
- Demands for more efficient, less wasteful packaging
- Growth in smart packaging systems, with item-level tracking using RFID or similar systems
